Matt Donegan is a professional forester based in Oregon with 35 years of experience in forest investment, operations and policy. Matt advises businesses, governments, universities and non-profits with a primary emphasis on wildfire. Matt is the former co-founder and co-president of Forest Capital Partners, a timberland investment management organization with operations in the Pacific Northwest, Inland West, Southeast and Lake States. FCP forests anchored regional economies – supplying over 100 mills and supporting thousands of jobs – while providing valuable recreational space for local communities and critical habitat for numerous species including grizzly bear, spotted owls and salmon. In Washington DC, Matt served as founding chair of the National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO) and director of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). In Oregon, Matt has chaired various state boards and commissions for the past four governors and currently chairs the Environmental Quality Commission. Matt earned a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Florida, where he chaired the student Society of American Foresters and was a member of the Xi Sigma Pi honor society. He earned an MBA with concentrations in Forestry and Finance from the University of Tennessee.
